It’s been a REALLY long time since I updated this. I feel like I have a good excuse.

Trinity is now 6 weeks old. She’s been a challenge to say the least. She’s been very fussy and having lots of trouble with her stomach. A few of the days (yes all 24 hours worth) were a real test of stamina and patience, but we got through it. There’s been good days and bad days, all memorable for sure.

Since she arrived, aside from hopefully keeping her as happy as possible, we’ve also been busy. New car. Photo shoot. Couple different formulas. Couple different drops. First halloween pumpkin. Oh yeah, and a million or two diapers.

Tomorrow Skyler goes back to work. I called in reinforcements from Illinois to help me get through in a manner that isn’t too detrimental to Trinity. Grandma Z. to the rescue. Here’s a few pics from the last few weeks. Hit the gallery for more.

What a process... Friday, the 11th, we went to our last checkup at Dr. Plummer’s. Doctor did the check-up and asked if we wanted to have the baby on Monday or Wednesday. Well, that was a shock. We’ve been doing so much preparation since February that it feels like so much longer than 7 months. Coming to the end of all that so abruptly was surreal to say the least.

As it turns out, abrupt wasn’t necessarily how things were going to proceed.

We checked in Sunday night after a big dinner and they started the induction process late that evening. Monday was a long hard day for Skyler, and ended up frustrated with no progress. So my poor wife had to try again on Tuesday. Tuesdays induction sadly, went much the same as Monday’s. And at around 6:00 the doctor came to the conclusion that Trinity had decided she wanted to be born via C-Section.

At 7:30 pm on the 15th of September, Trinity Blue Zimmerman arrived. She and Skyler did great in the OR and recovery. She weighed in at 7lbs 13oz. and measured out to be 19 1/2”.

Welcome to our world, Trinity Blue. We are so happy to finally have you here.

Honest.

“Honey, I’ve been thinking...”

Now, I know what your saying... 9 out of 10 times, when your wife speaks those words, it’s anything BUT innocent.

“... we should do a Dr. Seuss theme in the baby’s room.”

That’s how it began. Harmless, right? Well, we managed to turn that little statement into a giant project. A project that very nearly turned out better than our expectations. Here’s some pics.
The heat of July was relentless. We arrived in Kingwood in the late afternoon to find the suns rays had blasted the cheery suburb into dull and depressed submission. We staggered into the clinic as the sun’s oppressive rays pounded us into the pavement. The air conditioner seemed to be winning the battle against the heat once we made it through the doors, but it had taken its toll.

Everything was hazy as Skyler and I were herded to the darkest recess of the facility. We soon found ourselves in a room surrounded by monitors, LED’s, sensors, and a rather uninviting exam table. Still in the process of acclimating to this new environment, I was shoved to the side as Skyler was unceremoniously prepped for examination. The oddly dressed technician cackled maniacally, and spread an unpleasant looking substance onto my wife’s abdomen. “This will all be over soon, dear, just be still.” she explained. She was obviously trying to lull Skyler into a false sense of security. I didn’t know what she was up to yet, but I was going to stop it! I was sizing my two adversaries up for a drop kick followed by a few well placed karate chops when the machines came to life.

Colors and shapes flashed on the screen. The images were clearly distorted. The technician let out something that resemble a relieved sigh, and her lips curled into a sinister smile. She had seen something on the monitors. What was it? I tried in vain to catch site of something tangible. Was that a kidney bean? An artichoke? A llama?

The erratic movement of the image slowed. I concentrated. Could it be?

“AHHHHHGGGGG! IT’S AN ALIEN!”

“You goofball.” My wife smacked me playfully on the arm. “That’s your daughter and you know it. Stop embarrassing me.”

“...and get out from under that sink.”

Although she seems to strongly resemble a some sort of bean at this point, that will change quickly. Its been over 6 months since her first picture and it won’t be long now until we get to see her for the first time. This will be our little chronicle of our newest addition and the activities we will do together.
